Like other metropolises in a rapidly urbanizing region, Thailand’s capital has over the past decades been experiencing unprecedented growth both in the ever-increasing number of its residents and its sheer geographical size. Yet much of the city’s development has been helter-skelter, without proper planning and foresight. Nor has it come without severe environmental costs and social disadvantages.
