As the Southeast Asian archipelago of the Philippines is battered by increasingly stronger typhoons, 54 mayors across the country have shown their commitment to fight climate change through the Compact of Mayors, an international association of city leaders aspiring to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to prepare their communities to fight the effects of climate change. Members of the Compact of Mayors are also regularly monitoring and reporting the progress of their sustainability efforts to the public.
Of the 54 mayors, 17 of are overseeing the cities in the National Capital Region (NCR), including Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, who will lead the initiative for the Philippine chief executives dedicated to a zero-carbon environment. The remaining 37 come from cities outside the NCR.
