Aztec Arts was formed in Oaxaca state, Mexico in February 2005 by two friends, Joanna and Kath, who had met several years earlier in Madagascar. We were inspired by the gorgeous and unusual handicrafts on sale from small scale producers in the impoverished state and both of us had travelled extensively in the developing world so we wanted to help promote local crafts and businesses.
For the first two years we imported handicrafts direct from Mexico and central America, and became involved in Fair Trade in 2006. Realising how many beautiful products were available all over the world, and now operating as a sole trader, Joanna fell in love with these recycled aluminium products from India, which have been Aztec Arts's biggest seller since 2007.
We now sell products from all over the developing world including Thailand, Nepal, Mexico, Haiti and Guatemala, but it is our wide range of recycled aluminium products that Aztec Arts is renowned for.
As well as shopping through our website you can also find us at markets, shows and craft fairs all over the North. Check the Events page for details.
