After having spent almost two decades selling vitamin & mineral supplements, in February of 2007 I left my position with a leading American manufacturer and supplier of premium nutritional supplements, with the vision of starting a company that could help other small eco-friendly and ethical businesses develop, and also to sourcing and supplying unique, ethical and organic products. The start of my search for such products began with a visit to the BioFach organic trade fair in Germany. Although it was never my intention to get into natural cosmetics whilst at BioFach I came across the alva Naturkosmetik stand.
Intrigued by the name and the activity on the stand, and not having heard of alva before, I decided to find out what they were all about. I picked up one or two samples, one of which was the Sanddorn Hand Cream, and a brochure, and managed to talk with the then Export Director, and now CEO and good friend, Jens Schmitt.
Over the years I’d become somewhat of an expert on hand creams due to the eczema I’d been suffering which was localised to my hands and feet, so I decided I had to give this a try. Within a few weeks of using the hand cream there was a significant improvement with my eczema. I knew I’d found a special brand, but little did I know that this would lead to me becoming the sole importer and distributor for alva in the UK – that was never part of the plan, but in hindsight I think it was always meant to be!
